The concession renegotiation contract was signed on Saturday.<br \/>\nPSA SInes will invest 660 million in Terminal XXI<\/p>\n<p>The Administration of the Port of Sines (APS) and PSA Sines formalized the amendment to the concession contract for the Sines container terminal, which provides for an investment of 660.9 million euros by the concessionaire in the expansion and modernization of Terminal XXI, against the extension of the concession for 20 years, which allows the launch of the international tender for the construction of the second container terminal in the port of Alentejo (the Vasco da Gama Terminal).<\/p>\n<p>Of the total planned investment, around 300 million euros will have to be applied, at most, until 2027. This means that PSA Sines will have eight years to expand the terminal&#8217;s quay front to 1,950 meters (currently 1,040 meters), install nine more &#8220;super post-panamax&#8221; quay porticos (they will be 19 meters), reinforce the fleet of park gantries and expand the container parking area from the current 42 to 60 hectares. The expansion of the rail infrastructure is already completed.<\/p>\n<p>The remaining 363 million euros will be invested in equipment renewal, over the 20 years of the concession.<\/p>\n<p>With the expansion now formally contracted, Terminal XXI will increase its capacity from the current 2.3 million to 4.1 million TEU\/year.<\/p>\n<p>As part of the renegotiation of the concession contract, PSA Sines also waived its right of preference or exclusivity in relation to the construction and operation of other container terminals in Sines.
