After 9 months – Port of Viana do Castelo grows 19% in the movement of goods
In the first nine months of the year, the port of Viana do Castelo registered a growth of 19% in the movement of goods. With around 308 thousand tons of cargo handled until September, the monthly average “exceeded expectations, registering an increase of 26% compared to the same period of the previous year”, explains the Administration of the Ports of Douro, Leixões and Viana do Castelo ( APDL).
According to the port administration, solid bulk increased by 124,000 tonnes handled, corresponding to an increase of 112% over the same period last year.
Among the main goods handled in the port of Viana do Castelo, agri-food products stood out, with an increase of 51 thousand tons (+ 537%), becoming the main merchandise imported through port infrastructure.
“Since the beginning of the year, the port of Viana do Castelo has seen a successive growth in the movement of goods. We are now entering the last quarter of the year with great expectations for the end of 2019. This port infrastructure has managed to create a very interesting dynamism for the economy of the region and the country”, considers the APDL.
