Candidate Profile
Mandatory requirements: those contained in Decree-Law no. 48/2002 of 2 March, namely:
– Have Portuguese nationality, one of the Member States of the European Community or European Economic Area or even of the countries that enshrine equal treatment with national citizens, in terms of the free exercise of professional activities;
– Have knowledge of the Portuguese language, spoken and written, attested, in the case of foreign candidates, by an examination given before a jury to be appointed by the port authority, pursuant to paragraph 2 of article 17 of Decree-Law n.º 48 /2002 of March 2;
– Hold a valid maritime registration card in accordance with applicable legislation;
– Have a minimum pilot category of 1st class of the national merchant navy or equivalent;
– Meet the physical and psychological fitness requirements referred to in article 14 of Decree-Law no. 48/2002 of 2 March;
– Category B driving license;
– Absence of legal impediment;
Preferred requirements:
– Minor, preferably under 35 years old;
– More boarding time as a merchant marine officer;
– More command time;
– Merchant marine captain’s letter;
– More command time with merchant navy captain category;
– In the event of a tie, preference will be given to the sex least represented in the career, followed by increasing age.

The selection method to be adopted will consist of curricular assessment, which may be isolated or complemented by interview, written tests and psychological assessment.
Candidates selected for employment will be submitted to Medical Examinations of Psychophysical Aptitude with an eliminatory nature.
